Dunes is an artist-run, mission driven contemporary art gallery and cultural platform in Portland, Maine, committed to connecting local audiences with the highest caliber of contemporary art and ideas. Alongside exhibitions that bring Maine-based artists and writers into dialogue with nationally and internationally recognized practitioners, Dunes offers an unparalleled bookstore featuring critical theory, art, design, and architecture titles rarely available elsewhere in the state. The gallery presents regular free live programming including lectures, readings, screenings, and performances that foster collaboration between artists, writers, and audiences, often in partnership with other venues and organizations. These events expand the conversation beyond the visual and create a vibrant meeting point for exchange. By creating this context, Dunes strengthens Maine's cultural ecosystem, elevating regional voices while fostering meaningful collaborative engagement that resonates far beyond its walls.
